Commissioner Resignation

To Hereford Lacrosse Community:

November 25, 2003

After serving as the commissioner for the Hereford Boys and Girls Lacrosse program for approximately two years, John Betsill has informed us that he is resigning as commissioner. Until his successor is chosen, he has asked Marilyn Darcangelo to fill in as interim commissioner. The coordinators and assistant commissioners as provided on the organizational chart will, of course, continue to address any issues that arise.

Efforts in a prompt, fair, and inclusive manner to select a new commissioner are underway. All coaches and members on the organizational chart are encouraged to nominate a candidate for commissioner. In an effort to address this issue as quickly as possible please respond promptly.

Updates about our efforts and the process to select a new commissioner will be posted here. Please forward any suggestions to us as promptly as possible.

We extend our thanks to John Betsill for his service to the Lacrosse program and thank you for your continuing support of our young athletes.

Hereford Future LAX Stars Showcase Their Skills At Hopkins

Saturday 07/19/2003: Members of the two 2003 Hereford 7/8 Boys Tournament Teams participated in a rare opportunity to showcase their lacrosse skills, playing an all Hereford exhibition game during halftime intermission of the Baltimore Bayhawks vs. the Bridgeport Barrage game at Johns Hopkins Homewood Field. Regrouped into two teams for this event, these players got their first taste of playing 10 on 10 on a full size field. Not to mention the excitement of playing in the festive atmosphere of an MLL game, at a spectacular venue, under the lights, and in front of their largest audience. Smiles went from ear to ear! Of course, Hereford won! Thanks goes out to the Bayhawks for making such an opportunity possible for our future lacrosse stars. Their memories of that evening will not soon be forgotten.

Boys (7/8) 2003 Lax Max Tournament Champions!

Sunday 06/08/2003; Congratulations to the 2003 Hereford 7/8 Boys Tournament Team 1 (Koppelman) for winning their division Championship at this year's Pikesville Lacrosse Lax Max Tournament. Saturday's torrential rains forced the event to be compressed into a one day lacrosse marathon in some of the worst, muddiest field conditions imaginable. After coming up a goal short in the previous weekend's Lax Splash semi-finals, the team rose to the occasion by out scoring their opponents 33 to 7, winning the Championship with a convincing shutout victory in the final. The team's jubilation was indescribable. And so was the mud. Check out the championship trophy and team picture on display in Graul's showcase.

Honorable mention goes out to the Hereford 7/8 Boys Tournament Team 2 (Reider) which fell just short of their attempt at making a bid for an all Hereford final with a double overtime loss in their semi-final game. And, for wearing down the eventual runner-up.

Hereford Junior Girls Are MYLA Champions!

06/01/2003; Congratulations! Leslie Green's Junior C girls won the MYLA championship in their division. Also playing in the championship games were Nancy Love's Midget A team, and Brian Tenberg's Midget C team. They were runners up in their division. Well done!

Girls Lax Players Attend HHS Girls Lax Game

05/03/2003 - On Friday evening (May 3), the girls lax players, coaches and many of our parents attended the Hereford High School Varsity and JV girls lacrosse games. Our players who wore their uniforms were admitted for free. Both HHS teams played Loch Raven for their last regularly scheduled game of the season. The JV game treated our fans to a thrilling 6-6 overtime period and then sudden death play for the county championship. Unfortunately, Hereford did not win the sudden death. The varsity players retained a solid lead during their entire game.

After the varsity game, our girls who brought their lax sticks swarmed onto the stadium field to play catch with the varsity players under the lights. Each varsity player teamed up with one or more of our players and played catch, gave the girls some tips and spent time chatting with them. After a while, the varsity girls challenged our girls to a game of keep away. Finally, our girls wrapped up the evening by helping the varsity players put the equipment into the storage shed. One of our players best described the experience as “totally awesome” as she headed to the parking lot afterwards.

The Hereford High School Girls Lacrosse Program has been very generous with the HRC lax program. In addition to what is becoming an annual invitation to one of their home games, the HHS program also sponsors an annual clinic for our girls lacrosse coaches as well as many of the HHS varsity players assisting our girls teams at practices and games.
