Mark Pearce Elected New Commissioner

07/20/2005; The Hereford Lacrosse board elected Mark Pearce to serve as their commissioner during a well-attended meeting at the Pioneer Pub.

Mark is a graduate of Hereford High School where he played soccer, basketball and lacrosse. While earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Bucknell University, Mark was a four-year starter for the lacrosse team. After college lacrosse, Mark played and coached both Men's Club and Professional Indoor Lacrosse Teams. In addition, he's played and coached internationally in both Australia and Canada. Mark's two sons participated in the program this year and his daughter will soon follow.

Mark earned an MBA from Loyola College and currently works for Northrop Grumman in Linthicum Maryland.

"Walter Koppelmen and the board have done a tremendous job building the organization from a dozen or so teams into a forty plus team organization serving over 700 boys and girls in Northern Baltimore County. Hereford Lacrosse is strong financially and the board members are passionate in their desires. My role will be to build a strong organizational foundation to enable growth and move Hereford Lacrosse to the next level. I feel with increased community involvement, Hereford Lacrosse can become the model for youth lacrosse organizations. I am excited for the opportunity to lead Hereford Lacrosse. Thank you in advance for your support. -Mark"

Welcome to the program, Mark!

Spring LAX Kicks Off With HHS Clinic At Genesee

Clinic Gets Started At Genesee Valley

It could have been sunny. It could have been (a lot) warmer. But for the over 100 girls that attended this year's HHS varsity clinic, the weather was not the most important thing.

Anne Ensor and the Hereford High School varsity lacrosse girls shared their skills, their knowledge, and their spirit with our recreation level players, and conducted a clinic that we hope remains a community tradition.

And it's not just their skills on the lacrosse field that provided guidance to our youth players. At one point, when the team was being introduced, players were asked to step forward who participated in other activities. When asked "Which of you girls are on the honor roll?", the entire team stepped forward. Now that's something to be proud of!

More on the clinic, with more pictures!

Positive Coaching Sports Parent Workshop - March 16th, 2005

The key to preventing adult misbehavior in youth sports is a youth sports culture in which all involved "Honor the Game." Honoring the Game gets to the ROOTS of the matter and involves respect for the Rules, Opponents, Officials, Teammates and one's Self. You don't bend the rules to win. You understand that a worthy opponent is a gift that forces you to play to your highest potential. You show respect for officials even when you disagree. You refuse to do anything that embarrasses your team. You live up to your own standards even if others don't. Here are ways that parents can create a positive youth sports culture so that children will have fun and learn positive character traits to last a lifetime.

The Hereford Zone Recreation and Parks Council, with strong support and leadership from the Hereford Lacrosse program, will host a PCA Sports Parent workshop on Match 16th, 2005, in the Hereford High School cafeteria from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

Team parent volunteers are invited to attend. Please contact Walter Koppelman to sign up.

Positive Coaching Leadership Workshop - Jan 13th, 2005

"This interactive workshop will provide leaders with practical tools to implement an organizational culture conducive to positive coaching both short- and long-term."

The Hereford Zone Recreation and Parks Council, with strong support and leadership from the Hereford Lacrosse program, will host a PCA Leadership Workshop on January 13th, 2005, in the Hereford High School cafeteria from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. 31 leaders from Lacrosse, Football, Soccer, Field Hockey, Basketball, and HZRPC are registered to attend this meeting. Objectives of the workshop include learning practical tools for creating and sustaining an organizational culture conducive to positive coaching in the short and long term, and setting specific objectives for their organization that promote the values and behavior we want to see in our coaches, parents and athletes.

A "Double Goal Coach II Workshop", geared specifically for coaches, will be scheduled for mid February.
